Georgia Southern Women’s Tennis Building for Future

The Georgia Southern women’s tennis team said good-bye to only one senior at the close of the 2006-07 season, but what a senior she was. Heather Reynolds, recent recipient of the Southern Conference’s Dorothy Hicks Graduate Scholarship, won multiple awards on and off the court during her tenure as an Eagle.
Reynolds, a Fredericksburg, Va. native, graduated summa cum laude in three years with a bachelor’s degree in sport management. A four year member of the SoCon Honor Roll (2003-2007), she was also named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s All-Academic Team all four years of her undergrad experience. Reynolds was the 2005-06 Georgia Southern Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and received the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal in 2006.
Being the lone senior on the team, Reynolds leaves behind eight young teammates, all of whom have looked to Reynolds not only as a team captain, but as an example of what a Georgia Southern tennis player should be.
The Eagles finished 8-11 (4-5 SoCon) this season, in the middle of the Southern Conference standings.
“This young team had a great year,” said head coach Amy Bartlett-Bonner. “We finished in the middle of the SoCon standings, and next year hope to reach even higher. I have eight players returning for next year, as well as two strong incoming freshmen.”
Bartlett-Bonner, a native of Powder Springs, Ga., will return six players from the state of Georgia for the 2007-08 campaign.
“This year was great experience for this team,” added Bartlett-Bonner. “These young players have gained the kind of experience that will develop them into leaders and help to build this program.”
Heather Reynolds is the first of many to enter the Georgia Southern women’s tennis program as a freshman and leave as a young woman, and that’s exactly what Coach Bartlett-Bonner wants from her players – growth development and experience.
