Mental Toughness - Replacement Behavior

Troy Macisak Elite Fitness

If you have mental breakdowns because you are disappointed in the way you are playing and you react by throwing a racquet, hitting a ball against the fence, saying a curse word, or simply just giving up before the end of the match you need a replacement behavior. All these behaviors take place in between the actual point. During a match the actual time you are hitting the ball falls well short to the time you spend in between points. These are the top replacement behaviors you should follow rather than using that time to beat your self up.

MAY is Tennis Month!

Tennis Players Network thinks every month is “Tennis Month” – but we can go with it! Listen, let’s approach May with enthusiasm and rejoice that we are healthy enough and have the time and the love for the game to get out in the sunshine with the right attitude. Play with someone new to the game and play with someone MUCH better than you are; play a singles match all of you ALTA players; and get to know someone you play with that you haven’t spent much time getting to know. We are a family here as a tennis player in Georgia; a community. Check out the calendar of events for May www.tennisplayersnetwork.com and go watch and support some junior players that are fighting for a win to gain points.

Enjoy TPNs second Newsletter, send suggestions, USE the coupons that stores offered and stay focused on the court. Isn’t that part of the MENTAL TOUGHNESS article???

University Tennis

Georgia Southern University

Georgia Southern Women’s Tennis Building for Future

The Georgia Southern women’s tennis team said good-bye to only one senior at the close of the 2006-07 season, but what a senior she was. Heather Reynolds, recent recipient of the Southern Conference’s Dorothy Hicks Graduate Scholarship, won multiple awards on and off the court during her tenure as an Eagle.

Reynolds, a Fredericksburg, Va. native, graduated summa cum laude in three years with a bachelor’s degree in sport management. A four year member of the SoCon Honor Roll (2003-2007), she was also named to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s All-Academic Team all four years of her undergrad experience. Reynolds was the 2005-06 Georgia Southern Female Scholar Athlete of the Year and received the SoCon Commissioner’s Medal in 2006.

Being the lone senior on the team, Reynolds leaves behind eight young teammates, all of whom have looked to Reynolds not only as a team captain, but as an example of what a Georgia Southern tennis player should be.

The Eagles finished 8-11 (4-5 SoCon) this season, in the middle of the Southern Conference standings.

“This young team had a great year,” said head coach Amy Bartlett-Bonner. “We finished in the middle of the SoCon standings, and next year hope to reach even higher. I have eight players returning for next year, as well as two strong incoming freshmen.”

Bartlett-Bonner, a native of Powder Springs, Ga., will return six players from the state of Georgia for the 2007-08 campaign.

“This year was great experience for this team,” added Bartlett-Bonner. “These young players have gained the kind of experience that will develop them into leaders and help to build this program.”

Heather Reynolds is the first of many to enter the Georgia Southern women’s tennis program as a freshman and leave as a young woman, and that’s exactly what Coach Bartlett-Bonner wants from her players – growth development and experience.

BROOKE’S CORNER is something worth waiting for, all you JUNIOR PLAYERS!

Brooke is finishing up her tennis season and finals this month, then the game is on.

She has had an incredible freshman season, but I will let her tell you ALL about it next month. Stay tuned!

All Strung Up - Understanding Strings

Choosing a new racquet can be a confusing task, and then there are strings. Most people spend months choosing a racquet and only a few minutes choosing a string. The options for strings are seemingly endless and many strings claim to have the same benefits. While the differences in strings usually cannot be seen by the naked eye, they do exist.

Strings come in different gauges, constructions, and can be strung at different tensions. It is important to know how each of these characteristics can effect how you play. This guide will help you sort through the many options and truly understand how a string can affect the overall playability of the racquet as well as benefit your game.
