TPN not MIA

TPN is back up and running and although it was a “trying time” it became a blessing in disguise.  (If you haven’t heard from me personally, my computer crashed and I mean 100% crash!  So, go ahead and back up your important files before you continue reading!)

Lot’s going on this month – LOTS!

I’ve found some great information that has really improved my tennis game – and a few others that I know, and all this improvement has taken place in this past USTA season, by myself!  I’m so thrilled I want to get this information to more people.  The format in which you get this information is really crucial because it should be easy to use; but I’m not sure that what I want is what you want.  Will you help me by telling me what’s important to you?  I’ve created a survey, and you can type whatever you want in addition to the questions. To say “thanks” for your help, I’ll email you a part of the information and I’d love to hear what you think of that, too!

Now this information is only for people who want to improve their mental game, so if that’s not your interest, then I don’t want you to waste your time with the survey.  But if you do help with this project, then I’ll give you part of an interview with a world call player that covers:

  • Philosophy of Match Play

  • Mastering The Three Battles (winning strategy, negative frame of mind, and pushing your opponent beyond his physical tolerance)

  • Analyzing an Opponent’s Game

As my way of saying “thank you so much for your insights and help!”

Kimberley Chance Atkins

1967 – 1999

I was just four years old when my mom, Kim Atkins, died from breast cancer.  As a little kid, I was taken care of by family and friends.  My dad does the best he can, but. . . I miss my mom.

Now that I’m growing up (almost 13), I miss her even more.  When I need girl talk, she’s not there.  When I need help with clothes, she’s not there.  When I need help with my homework or even advice about boys, she’s not there.  I try to be strong, I am strong.  I want to be sure that other kids like me don’t have to know what it’s like to be without their mom because of breast cancer.

I’m helping my dad raise money to purchase a Mobile Mammography Unit for Rockdale and surrounding counties.  Dad and I want to begin with the teachers...my mom was a teacher....and then to every mother, wife, daughter, grandmother, aunt, or any woman that has to work and doesn’t have time to go get a mammogram.

You can help my dad and me by being a sponsor of the third annual Kim Atkins Memorial Tennis Tournament, August 22-24.  All money raised from the tournament, named in memory of my mom, will go towards the purchase of this equipment.  Please read the brochure that’s included with my letter – that’s me on the front with my mom!  You can fill out the form on the brochure or call Jean Yontz, Event Manager, at 404-775-8893 to make a donation, sponsor a team or register to play.

Please support this tournament and help me help other children avoid losing their mom to this terrible cancer..

Sincerely,

Abbey Renee Atkins

MENTAL TOUGHNESS

Serve It Good!

Players holding serve isn’t always about having the biggest, and fastest serve.  The key to the best servers is they have very good second serves.  The placement keeps the opponent off balance, or off the court...>>Read More!

Tip from Jim Harp

Tennis is a very difficult sport, if it wasn’t so many people wouldn’t suck at it! However most errors are mental not physical. How else would you explain the hacker having so much success beating up on the rest of us?

Sorry to put the damper on the weekly lesson. The lessons help for sure but not if you don’t focus.

Keep your eyes on the ball, your mind on your strategy and your racquet aiming at your target. If you win the point who cares if your stroke finishes properly! Look at the pros. The ball is moving at incredible speeds and Federer looks like he is picking up a chicken biscuit.

Well maybe it was a bagel in his last match!!  But his eyes are on the ball, always on the ball. In fact you could make the argument that the greatest commonality among successful players is their ability to keep their eyes on the ball, and maintain high levels of focus.

How many times does your pro feed you the “second try” and you get that one in?? Hmmm. You need to bring that same level of focus on the first shot! Make sense?
Good luck out there and remember not to cheat on purpose.

Please don’t skip your lesson, we need the money.
